What Would You Do?

As I write this post, it's still early in the day Tuesday. The voting is nowhere near complete and the winner is far from being determined. I'm not going to use this post to celebrate or lament a win or loss. What I want to do is start a discussion, something that will get us all thinking. So, everybody who reads this post today, put in your two cents. Subscribe to the comments. Let's get a discussion going. Here are the two questions I want you to answer:

If you were elected to the office of President of the United States, what would be your first task?

If you were elected to the United States Congress, what would be your first task?

Here are my answers.

My first task as President would be to dissolve the government agency known as the Internal Revenue Service. There would no longer be a federal income tax. Instead, I would work to put into place a federal retail sales tax program. This is also known as the Fair Tax program.

My first task as a member of Congress would be to work to establish term limits to the offices of Senator and Representative. Personally? I think no one should serve more than two senatorial terms (12 years total) and no more than four representative terms (eight years total).

What would you guys do?

I'm right there with you on the Fair Tax. Also, do away with private financing of elections like a certain candidate did this year. Seriously, George Soros completely funded the Democrats and especially the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Fund. Soros poured 15 million dollars into the KY senatorial race, but thank the Lord they lost!! Do away with the 504 funding Political Action Commitees as well.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but there is no compulsory income tax law. Based upon the language in the IRC and the original intent of the tax, it is voluntary tax and was intended for business income, not to tax personal income. But try telling the IRS that . . . .

You're a damned copycat. The fairtax would be my first and, until it passed, only effort. Second would be term limits. I'd change congressmen to four year terms and they could serve two, and that's it.

In either position, I would analyze all of the options for health care for everyone. I don't know what the answer is so I'd need to do a lot of research. I know too many people (myself included) who have had multiple problems with accessing affordable health care. Heck, if there is any possibility of change in health care in the next few years I'll volunteer anyway possible. I don't need to be president to volunteer!

I think this is an excellent question. I am with you on term limits, but as for the Presidential question, I need to ponder it more. There are so many great things about the US, but so many things that could be better.

I was going to let this one go, because we are about as far apart politically as we could get without coming back around the other way. But, I actually agree with you on term limits. Think it would be a good idea.

The Fair Tax...I think I'll just leave that one. Let me just say that I think it is inappropriately named.
